EARLY 1800s ANTIQUE FOLK ART SIDE CHAIRS WOOD HAND PAINTED RARE MATCHED SET OF 6 Up for sale is this amazing set of 6 Early American chairs. They have turned legs and painted backs, seats and legs. They are a Hitchcock-style chairs with hand-painted floral designs with gold, green, and maroon colors on the backs and they have painted seats and legs of white pin striping. All 6 chairs match although they are in different conditions. The stain on the chairs is a deep black that is nicely patina-ed. Some of the chairs are slightly worn, others are a lot more worn, especially on the seat area from use. There’s wear on the seats and on some of the edges where people rubbed over the years. We think these are from the 1800’s but they might be earlier, we’re not sure as we are not experts in the ages of things. The chairs measure 31.5″ H x 16.25″ wide at the upper back and 14″ wide at the widest part of the seat x 14.5″ D. The seats are 16.5″ H. As you can see from the dimensions, these are on the smaller size for chairs. Typically we’ve seen that this means that they are older. The chairs are sturdy but old and not to be expected to be “creakless” or “like new”. The seats show wear, variation in color and nicks in the finish. Some of the footrests also show wear and loss of stain from rubbing shoes and feet on the rungs. The chairs have nicks, chips, edgewear and wonderful patina on them as you’d expect from chairs of this age! This is a fabulous (hard-to-find) set of 6 chairs. It’s rare to find 6 that match!
