Antique X Ray Machine Problems

Antique X-Ray machines are sought after by collectors all over the world. There are two main reasons for this, the first is the nostalgia factor. The second is that the machine is a true antique. When you see an antique X-Ray machine for the first time, you may not know whether it is a new or an antique, especially if it has been treated with resin. If you are lucky enough to own an antique machine you will want to know how to recognize it from a modern day counterpart.

The most important thing to look for is the machine’s glass plate. This is the front of the machine where you can see the glass bulbs inside and is the only part that are usually clear. If the glass plate in the antique X Ray machine is cracked or is otherwise marked as being breakable then it is probably an antique.

The machine’s glass doors will be frosted over and there will likely be raised panel engraved with the manufacturer’s name or the words “Furniture X Ray”. A more common problem is the cabinet doors can have paint peeling off. This is very easy to notice because you will notice a white line running along the inside of the cabinet. Another antique X Ray machine problem is when the rays do not come out at all. If this occurs, you are probably looking at an earlier model.

If the cabinet has any frosting remaining on the glass, you can also gently tap on the glass to test it. You may find that it sounds hollow when you tap, but if so, then it is not an antique. Also try pulling gently on the glass to make sure it does not move. If it moves then it is not the machine and may be due to some other piece of furniture moving in the room or the cabinet itself falling down.

The cabinet keypad is also an antique machine that can be tested to see if it works. If the machine comes out and does not recognize your name or it costs more than you have to pay then it is not an antique. It is also important to remember that the buttons and levers on the antique machine are usually very difficult to operate and may require specialized training before you are able to successfully use them. Another antique machine problem is the feeder that comes with the machine. This feeder stops working after some years and needs to be replaced.

Lastly, if after having your antique X Ray machine checked everything is fine then it may be time to consider replacing the machine with a new one. If you are not skilled at repairs then it is best to leave the job to the pros who know what they are doing. There are also many commercial antique machine parts that can be used to make your antique machine work again. Finding a local repair shop is also an option but since you bought the antique machine in a private collection, it is not likely that anyone knows of the repairs needed or how to go about it.
