Antique Vintage Oak Wood B.L. Marble Office Chair Bank Lobby Court House Jury

Free shipping!!! For sale is an old antique solid oak wood Bank Lobby/Courthouse/Jury office chair manufactured by B.L. Marble Chair Company. It has been in our family for several decades but has seen no use in the last eight years, where it has been in storage. It is in its original condition and we have not attempted to restore or refinish it. From my research, this model of this chair is the “Bank of England.” The Bank of England chairs were one of the best in office chairs of the last century. It was available in different kind of woods; by the looks of it, I believe this chair is made from quartersawn oak wood (please view photos to make your own assessment). It is heavy for what it is and has a beautiful curved slat back rest and a nice, large, very comfortable contoured seating area. B.L. Marble chairs were made to last and known for their comfort and elegance. Note the pronounced ridge on the bottom seat. The ridge is essential to the comfort of these kinds of wooden chairs. It can be best seen on the side views. MarkingsThere is a nickel plated circular badge affixed to the bottom of the chair with the name of the manufacturer engraved on it, stating “The B.L.MARBLE CHAIR CO., BEDFORD, OHIO”. Background The B.L. Marble Chair Co. of Bedford, Ohio was formed in 1894 and turned out sturdy wooden chairs used in homes and offices, schools, courthouses and taverns around the United States. In 1965 it merged with Dictaphone Corp., and it stopped production in 1985. Actual Measurements Taken of the Chair: Overall Height 32.5″ Overall Depth 23.5″Overall Width on the outside of the arms 22.75″Width from inside one of the arm rests to the other 19″Seat Width 20 1/4″Seat Depth 17 11/16″Seat Height Floor to seat 17 3/4″Back Rest Height (Top of seat to top of backrest) 16 1/4″ Condition: The wood has a smooth, semi-glossy finish. The most obvious wear is on the rear portion of the top of the seat. You can either enjoy it as-is or you can refinish it. The wood and the overall rigidity of the chair is extremely solid with no splintering or structural issues. Note: One of the four standard/generic metal feet underneath the legs is missing (you can see this on the bottom right leg of photo # 10), but this is easy to find and replace; if you have wood floors that you care about, you will probably want to replace the original metal feet with something softer anyway. It has a custom made strip attached to the top of the backrest which protects both the wall and the chair that was there when we purchased this. Most of banker chairs that I have seen from this company do not have this, which is a shame. I do not know at what point it was added, whether installed as an option at the B.L Marble factory or installed afterwards, but the bumper is seamless looking and period appropriate for a chair of this type.
